Happy New Year to our Stoughton Public Schools community! There is no school on Monday, January 1, 2024. Students return from winter vacation on Tuesday, January 2, 2024. We look forward to seeing you soon!

Students in the SEL (social emotional learning) after school program at the Dawe School celebrated being in their "affirmation era" by making affirmation bracelets, using beads to spell out a positive affirmation to describe themselves.

Now that we are in December and the official start of winter is right around the corner, here is a reminder of our school cancellation and delayed opening plan for when there is inclement weather: https://www.stoughtonschools.org/page/cancellation-delayed-opening-plan

Here are pictures from the assembly at the Dawe School where principal Mr. Cancellieri kissed a pig to celebrate the Dawe surpassing its fundraising goal for the recent fun run event! The assembly started with Mr. C. reading the book "Our Principal Promised to Kiss A Pig". Then Mr. C. fed a cracker and gave a kiss to Prosciutto, a pig from Alpine Acre farm in Stoughton!

In honor of Election Day, Dawe School first graders learned about the voting process and took part in a mock election by setting up a polling location with voting booths in school. They even received "I voted" stickers! Students learned why it is important to voice their opinion by voting and how they can help their community by getting out and voting. Students also learned about when people vote and how they have to go to a polling location and cast a ballot. All of the first grade classes at the Dawe earned a compliment party and were voting on a movie to watch for the compliment party. "Monsters, Inc.", "A Bug's Life", and "101 Dalmatians" were on the ballot, and in a landslide victory, "Monsters, Inc." won! "Monsters, Inc." teaches about friendship and being open to new ideas and having a growth mindset (all part of our SEL curriculum)!

Here are some pictures of students arriving at the Dawe Elementary School for the first day of school! Superintendent of Schools Dr. Baeta and Assistant Superintendent Mr. Ford joined Dawe Principal Mr. Cancellieri in greeting students and families.

Our newest Dragons had a great time at the Dawe School's Kindergarten meet & greet event!

Two Dawe School students were honorable mention winners in the Massachusetts Water Resources Authority’s Annual Poster Contest for this school year! The MWRA received close to 2,000 posters and only selected seven winners in each of the four categories - grades K-2, grades 3-5, grades 6-8, and grades 9-12. Kindergarten student Maelys Bernard, pictured left, won honorable mention in the K-2 category, and fifth grader Na Pham, pictured right, won honorable mention in the grades 3-5 category. The MWRA will honor contest winners at a ceremony later this month. Winning posters will also be on display at the Metropolitan Waterworks Museum in Boston. Congratulations!

Dawe School 5th grade student Joana Meta had one of her poems selected for publication in the Young American Poetry Digest! Joana's poem will be included with other poems written by students across the country. The Poetry Digest for 2023 will be printed this fall. Congratulations Joana!
